Another week has passed and that means we have plenty of events to recap! November is half way over which means this semester’s events are slowly coming to an end! The #CHAARGfitplan week 8 was challenging to say the least and we are excited for week 9 to start. Each week we LOVE seeing everyone’s feedback and pictures from the events. Today, we are recapping the chapter events from this past week. A huge thanks to all the studios/instructors that made this week possible!

OSU CHAARG Event 1

Event: Bellydancing with Black Market Belly Dance

Instructor:  Leyla Billman

Intensity (1-5):  1

Leyla taught us some basic belly dance beginner moves. We shimmied, swirled and popped our hips and chests, and whirled our arms. The workout targeted mainly our hips, glutes, and abs.

”It was a really unique workout.” - Rebecca

”It was really fun and different. It really loosened me up.” – Lacy

OSU CHAARG Event 2

Event: Bexa Body Fitness

Instructor: Ellie

Intensity (scale 1-5): 4

Ellie, the lead trainer at Bexa Body Fitness (who specializes in personal training & extreme weight loss – how cool is that) led the workout for us. There were a total of 6 circuits and since there was a small amount of us, we all split up into groups of 2 at each circuit. At each circuit there was three activities including a variety of weight lifting and cardio circuits. Some of the activities we did included burpees, side shuffle ladders, medicine ball lunges, dead lifts and pull ups. The girls cycled through doing each for one minute, then again through each circuit for 45 seconds. We finished by choosing our favorite circuit and we did the whole thing for 30 seconds. It was a great workout at one of the most fun amazing gyms I have ever been too. Ellie was a great instructor and was awesome to work with!

“Usually when I think of strength training I think of slow movements, but this workout was fast and switched it up a lot!  I really enjoyed it!” -Emily

“I liked how Ellie broke up the circuits into strength training and cardio. It got my heart rate up but allowed me to rest some during the strength training. The quick paced circuits made it fun and kept the workout from getting boring. I liked it but I feel like it could have been a bit more challenging.” -Sam

PITT CHAARG

Event: Kickboxing with Ryer Martial Arts Academy

Instructor: trainers at Ryer

Intensity (1-5): 3

This was one of my favorite events we have done so far. There was circuit training, kickboxing, boxing, and lots of abs. We were constantly moving and doing partner exercises. The trainers you can tell are very dedicated to what they do and really want to help people become the fittest and best they can be. There was an extremely positive vibe in the atmosphere at the gym and a lot of motivation to help everyone finish each exercise to the best of their ability. The gym also provides a free week of classes when someone joins their gym which was great incentive for many girls to want to go back! All of the girls really enjoyed kickboxing and I would love to schedule another event with Jamie. She even emailed me after the event saying how much she enjoyed working with CHAARG and would love to do another event. She was very impressed with the girls’ abilities because the workout was pretty rigorous and everyone kept up.

“We should be video-taping this!” – Katie

“It was really fun – not what we usually do in CHAARG so it was a nice change-up!” – Dana

UD CHAARG

Event: Kettlebells with Personally Fit

Intensity (1-5):  4

Kettlebells is a challenging exercise that engages mainly your legs but also your core, arms, and butt! This exercise had you sweating within the first rep of the first set. It was hard to lift the kettlebell and control the swing, it took arm strength to master the hitch as well as core strength to stop the momentum. This is an exercise that I plan on doing again.

It was really fun to try a new workout that I had never heard of and you could really feel it in working right away!” -Gretta

“It was a fun and informative workout! Can’t wait to do more kettlebell workouts in the future!” -Katie Shadely

MICH CHAARG

Event: Boxing with Title Boxing

Instructor: Rachel Wilson and Kate Johnson

Intensity (1-5): 5

Mich CHAARG girls took on a both challenging and fun boxing class led by two of Title Boxing Club’s awesome instructors Rachel and Kate. Rachel is a University of Michigan Alumni and Kate is a University of Michigan Junior who is also the President of the Women’s Club Boxing team! They led the girls through a series of intense boxing moves which incorporated cardio, squats and much more! To cool down from the workout the girls were led in a challenging ab routine followed by some stretching. This workout was really fun and was able to challenge all fitness levels!

UC CHAARG

Event: Cross Fit at Oakley Pure Barre

Intensity (1-5): 4

UC CHAARG got an extremely intense workout with Cross fit. We were all a little nervous to start because of the intense stigma that come along with cross fit. Our instructors pushed us through and taught us new ways to take simple moves to the next level in a high intensity, short workout that anyone can fit into their schedule!

“I was a little intimidated at first because the instructors had a no nonsense approach to the workout, which I came to appreciate once I was finished. It made me push myself to the extreme of my ability and it made me forget about giving up. I knew I had worked all the muscles in my body but the next day I was sore in muscles that I never even knew I had!”- Sammi

“This workout put small, unique tweaks on basic body weight exercises that gave us an intense total-body workout in a short amount of time. It taught me how to take my simple strengthening moves to the next level”- Ali Zerbe
